Welcome To Madera!!!
Rasta and Remy peek over the fence. They look so much happier then when we all first met. Pulled off the feedlot in Fallon, Nevada, skinny and frightened, not interested in being handled, they were bound for the horrific journey to hell, commonly known as the slaughterhouse. The treatment horses receive on the way to their ending is often worse than the death itself. These girls have come a very long way. Horses are such an instrument of faith. They learn to trust again, placing hope and their destiny in our hands. We are honored to get to help them live and learn to love.

Karie runs & owns our Foster Ranch. She and her husband Lee make it possible for Pregnant Mare Rescue to save, care for and rehabiliatate twice as many souls! They battle that central valley heat, sometimes reaching into the 105 degree mark. Eq-Wine covers has generously offered shelter to help them cope with the scorching heat. Our donors and supporters are The World's Best!!
As the central valley communities begin to realize that there is now a horse rescue in their backyard, volunteers are beginning to appear! Karie could use the help, mucking, feeding, grooming. If you're interested in helping out, pleeze send us an email to redbootz5306@yahoo.com.
Pregnant Mare Rescue Madera is also beginning to think about wonderful ways to get the word out. It's time to start thinking about our first fundraiser! Maybe we'll do an old fashioned barn dance. Anybody got a barn we can dance in?
As always it is the support and generosity of the community that makes our rescue orgnization flourish. We are a reflection of the continual love that pours in. If you would like to help horses, spend some time in the outdoors and really help make a difference we could use the help!
Madera has been operating on a shoestring budget for almost 6 mos! Yikes! We sure could use the following:
Pipe Panels; At one point we dismantled the round pen to make a safe foaling area for one of our moms! Shelter; For the hay. If you're a carpenter, if you have the wood, if you can help with the labor of building...it would be nice to have dry storage for hay. Fly predators; Central Valley has a fly issue the coast does not.
And of course $$$ Donations $$$ Earmark your hard earned donated cash "Madera", and every penny will go towards the horses in their care!

Fancy, a gorgeous mustang from southern Oregon, is waiting for her new home. Karie has determined that pasure or an Egala future would best suit Fancy. She is a sweet girl with lovely ground manners. She has experienced a lot of trauma in her life. We are speculating over correction, with very harsh treatment for punishment. She used to tremble and wince as if she was waiting for the "Blow". Fancy has been with us now for about 10 months. We feel a wonderful pasture home would be great. She is not alpha, and isn't aggressive with other horses.
Miss Fancy Pants
This is Buggs. He was the 2008 winner of the "Cutest Mule In California" contest. He has very nice ground manners, and will trot for days. He's looking for his forever home.
Look at that cute face...no wonder he won the "cutest" contest!
Lakota and Titan are two fabulous little Mustang colts who arrived at PMR's facility in February of this year. They came straight off the plains of North Dakota, and were wormy, scrawny, little fuzzballs; they quickly went from being frightened of humans, to figuring out that these humans were pretty cool! With Karie and Lee's hard work they have become gorgeous little boys, shiny and happy, and very well behaved. They would love to find their forever homes, and have their "own" humans to love.

May first came to PMR in August of 2007. She and her baby Daisy were rescued off the feedlot in Fallon, Nevada. She is a beautiful, sweet roan mare, and her baby Daisy was definitely a "mini-me" of her mom. They were both quickly adopted, but had to be returned due to financial hardship (job loss). Daisy was re-adopted, and is now living happily with her new family. May cannot be ridden, due to what appears to be injuries to her front legs, most likely caused by barbed wire. We would love to find a sanctuary home for this sweet girl to spend the rest of her days in peace and safety.
Miss May
Last, but certainly NOT least, are our recent Fallon feedlot rescues, Rasta and Remy, whom you met above. These two girls really have come a long way. We keep thinking we need to change Rasta's name, since she no longer has her "signature dredlocks" that she arrived with. Karie calls Remy her "pocket pet", because she follows Karie around like a puppy. Karie has made amazing progress with these two girls.
Beautiful Rasta...no dredlocks here!
Thanks for visiting! We hope to see you again soon!!!
